This sample syllabus provides lecture topics, inclusive of PowerPoint slides, as well as assignments. A sample video is provided as well to demonstrate how the lecture slides are presented for students. The 19 sections of the syllabus may be taught at a pace of one to two sections per week for a 12 to 15 week course, with additional time dedicated to in-class discussions and student presentations, guest speakers, etc.

SAMPLE SYLLABUS FOR THE STARTUP ANALYSIS CANVAS

Course Description

This course is designed to for students to understand the theory and practice of value creation, determine how to build the right team for a startup company, avoid wasting time with startup ideas with limited commercial potential, and raise the right financial capital at the right time for the right purpose.

 

Course Goals

  • Understand how to effectively design value propositions that directly align with target customers’ interests

  • Build the skills to assemble and lead an well-comprised team to produce results that create value for customers

  • Develop insights on how to pursue big ideas that really matter to customers

  • Craft financial models that minimizes risks and maximizing your success

“The Startup Analysis Canvas” by James V. Green. The printed version is available from Amazon and select retailers. The online version include quizzes to reinforce key concepts.

 

Assignments and Grading

Grading is based on two categories of assignments.

1. To test the basic principles of The Startup Analysis Canvas, a number of quizzes are assigned this term. The quizzes are available at the conclusion of select chapters in the online version of The Startup Analysis Canvas book.  

2. A term-long project challenges students to apply The Startup Analysis Canvas to their own entrepreneurial ideas. The project is divided into five phases. Each phase is due upon completion of the classroom discussion on that individual phase. The final phase is a culmination of the prior four phases, with further integration and enhancement based on faculty feedback on the prior phases.
